Located in the northwestern part of Spain, Santiago de Compostela or Santiago (the way it is popularly known nowadays) is the capital city of Galicia. According to locals, Santiago plays a significant role in Catholicism because the city houses the tomb of Saint James above which the famous Cathedral of Santiago has been built. The Camino de Santiago (the Way of St. James); the ancient pilgrim route stretches across many parts of Europe and ends at this tomb and stretches across Europe.
